Oleander Furman (she/they) is a Bronx native of Afro-Caribbean descent. A multimedia artist and entrepreneur, Oleander has written and performed works across North America, including the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Bluestockings Bookstore, published work in Rookie Mag, and starred as voice talent in global campaigns for clients including the WNBA.

Over the course of her career she has served as the Interim Artistic Director at Brooklyn’s Rebel Playhouse, led teams as an Associate Director for Off-Broadway productions, and is independently developing a body of work that explores her lived experience at the intersections of identity, grief, water, reverence, and femininity.

Guided by relentless curiosity, Oleander creates concepts that could have inspired younger versions of herself. She often experiments with layering sound, images, textiles, poetry, and other mediums to explore questions and themes such as: interrogating our culture's conflation of authority, power, and presumed inherent superiority, what can safety and refuge look like in a world where critical cognitive thinking, intellectualism, and self-sufficiency are actively under siege?, how can we foster ethical and substantial relationships in a society that has become tethered to social media, performative activism & virtue signaling in an ever-increasing digital landscape? and others.

Currently, Oleander is building VERSATILE VICES©️ a capsule driven sustainable fashion label and NERION STUDIOS©️ — a multimedia studio guided by amplifying stories often suppressed and sidelined by legacy media.

Oleander holds an undergraduate degree from Wellesley College with a dual focus in Political Science and English with a concentration in Cultural and Ethnic Studies.
